Dear GT Parents and Community Friends,
Greetings! I wrote to you a few months ago about Gordon Tech’s opportunity to start an international student host program. The initiative kicked off with 5 German Students who visited GT over a 3-week span. Thanks to the following families the program was truly a great success: Gianni, Inserra, Garcia and Bonesz. In addition, a special thank you to the GT faculty, staff and coaches who made special accommodations for these students allowing them to participate in class and in extra-curricular activities.
Moving from Germany to China, last month I was invited by China Project Hope (CPH) to attend multiple conferences throughout China on internationalizing education. The CPH group traveled over 3,000 miles within the country in 10 days, visited 12-15 schools and met with hundreds of students who have been accepted to prestigious high schools and universities in the U.S. I even meet with the 3 students and their families who have been accepted to GT for the 2012-2013 school year. If you’re interested in more information, i’ve attached a press release with details on the trip and specific information on one of the future GT students.
While on the trip, I interviewed another 10 prospective international students. It appears that GT’s location within the city of Chicago makes us popular among the Chinese! Therefore, GT is in need of an additional 5 host families for next year. I’ve provided a snapshot of the host program below for those who believe this is something they can do. It really is a wonderful opportunity for your family and the GT Community to participate in a deeper understanding of Chinese culture. I have video applications of prospective students for you to use when deciding upon a student to host.
There is a bulletin board outside room of 503 with even more information on the trip and host program. If you are interested please fill out the host family application found HERE. The forms are due to me no later than May 15th. Thank you for all you do to prepare our students to be leaders in a global society!
Sincerely,
Kelly Jones
President
